Briant Point’s Boathouse: The Beauty of Homes That Tell a Story

Some houses impress you the moment you walk through the door.

Others quietly steal your heart.

That was always my vision for Briant Point's Boathouse.

I never wanted it to feel perfectly decorated or carefully styled. Instead, I imagined a home that had evolved over generations—a place where every scratch on the floor, every weathered oar and every faded painting had earned its place.

The kind of home where you immediately kick off your shoes, hear the waves outside, make a cup of tea and settle into your favourite armchair.

Because to me, that's what coastal living is really about.

It's the Imperfections That Make It Beautiful

One of my favourite details throughout the boathouse isn't actually new at all.

It's the paint-splattered wooden floors.

Years of navy and white paint have left their mark, creating a beautifully worn surface that tells the story of countless summers by the sea. Add in the slightly wonky walls, weathered timber beams and well-loved furniture, and suddenly the house feels wonderfully authentic.

I think we sometimes spend too much time trying to make our homes look perfect.

The homes I fall in love with are usually anything but.

They're layered, collected and full of memories.

Textiles That Feel Like Summer

Whenever I'm designing a room, fabrics are what truly bring it to life.

For Briant Point's Boathouse, I mixed timeless coastal classics:

  • Soft ticking stripes

  • Washed linen throws

  • Indigo blue florals

  • Heritage gingham checks

  • Chunky woven baskets

  • Natural jute rugs

  • Relaxed cotton cushions

Nothing matches perfectly—and that's exactly the point.

The layering makes everything feel effortless, comfortable and lived in, as though each piece has been collected over many years.

Let Your Artwork Tell the Story

Artwork is always the starting point for me.

Rather than filling a room with generic nautical décor, I love creating gallery walls that feel personal.

Vintage sailing boats.

Lighthouses.

Old nautical charts.

Botanical studies.

Weathered harbour scenes.

These are the pieces that create atmosphere and quietly transport you somewhere else.

Many of the watercolour paintings I create are inspired by New England, Nantucket and the Hamptons—places whose beautiful coastal architecture and relaxed lifestyle have inspired me for many years. Every illustration begins as an original artwork in our family studio in the Cotswolds before being printed as a fine art print. (Hamptons Club Studio)

The Little Details That Make a House Feel Real

Some of my favourite decorating pieces aren't expensive antiques.

They're simply objects that feel like they've always belonged.

Think vintage trunks used as coffee tables.

Old rowing oars mounted above the beams.

Blue and white pottery collected over the years.

Model sailboats.

Shells gathered on beach walks.

Weathered lanterns.

Brass lamps.

Wicker trays.

These small touches don't overpower a room—they quietly tell its story

A Timeless Coastal Colour Palette

If there's one thing I always return to, it's the colours of the sea.

Soft ivory.

Weathered white.

Driftwood grey.

Deep navy.

Faded indigo.

Warm cognac leather.

Natural wicker.

Antique brass.

These colours never feel trendy. They simply feel timeless—and they're the perfect backdrop for a home that's designed to be lived in.

Home Is a Feeling

When I created Briant Point's Boathouse, I wasn't trying to design a picture-perfect room.

I wanted to create a feeling.

A place that feels warm in every season.

A home where friends gather around the coffee table, books are left open, blankets are draped over chairs, and every painting and collected treasure tells a little part of the story.

Because the most beautiful homes aren't the ones that are finished.

They're the ones that continue to evolve with every memory that's made inside them.

Thank you for stepping inside Briant Point's Boathouse with me. I hope it inspires you to embrace the beauty of imperfection, collect the pieces you truly love, and create a home that tells your story.

With love,

Daniela x
